The following research
topics are to be addressed within the context of the NIMEX-1 programme.
- The surface energy balance at a typical
agricultural site in tropical conditions at Ile-Ife, Nigeria,
particularly for the transition between dry and wet season,
will be investigated based on accurate measurements of all
components of the energy and radiation.
- The methods that are in wide use
for calculating sensible heat flux and evaporation from the
land surface will be validated from direct measurements, and
their limitations under wet and dry season conditions in Nigeria.
- From standard meteorological measurements,
simple methods will be developed for estimating evaporation
and radiation at the surface compatible with the tropical
conditions.
- Different methods in current use
for estimating the soil heat flux will be evaluated with the
NIMEX-1 data.
