The land-surface atmosphere energy exchange research, the Nigerian Micrometeorological Experiment (NIMEX-1) being conducted is located at the Teaching and Research (T&R) farm of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The university farm is situated NE corner of the main campus (7.55oN, 4.56oE, elevation 288m) and it is at a distance of approximately 5 km away by the road. The measurement site chosen for the study is a typical agricultural farmland which had been allotted to the Department of Plant Science as a research facility. The measurement surface is rather flat and open over an area of approximately 1000 metres by 300 metres (see photo below). Beyond this surface are the forested areas which is typical of the natural vegetation of the area.
