The availability of well-equipped and functional laboratories for multi-disciplinary research purposes is conditio sine qua non for scientific development of developing nations, Nigeria inclusive. Such facilities must have essential information technology (IT) tools for analysis and interpretation of data and communication with the rest of the world. The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU)’s Central Science Laboratory (CSL) is, with deep sense of modesty, one such infrastructure with state- of- the- art instruments providing services for an actively engaged scientific community in the areas of Research and Development (Rand D).

Over the years, the university found that most laboratories have equipment with no spare parts to service them in one hand and researchers have no idea what equipment/facilities exist in other departments/units. Such inadequate and dilapidated infrastructures generally impacted negatively on R and D activities not only in OAU but nationwide. The CSL was established to address these problems by pooling the resources and placing them at the disposal of both staff and student researchers of the University. Our services are also available to users outside the university domain. Epileptic electricity supplies coupled with poor quality of water have ruined several laboratory instruments/equipment in Nigeria thus creating a nightmare for scientists. Two electrical generators (114KvA and 22.5KVA) are available for use in the event of power failure.
