The Atmospheric Research and Information
Analysis Laboratory (ARIAL), is a research facility with
the aim of developing and applying relevant atomic,
nuclear, other experimental, computational and
modeling techniques, to various scales of
atmospheric research, as may be relevant to
Meteorology, Climatology and emerging global
atmospheric change issues.
|
|
ARIAL was established to meet some of the challenges
in the implementation of the
Canada-Nigeria Climate Change Capacity Development
(CN-CCCD) Project, under the auspices of the Global
Change Strategies International (GCSI)
Inc., Ottawa, Canada and the Nigerian Environmental
Study/ Action Team (NEST),
Ibadan, Nigeria.
|
|
These include greenhouse gas emissions
inventory, mitigation options assessment, regional
climate modeling and development of climate
scenarios for Nigeria for the period 2000 - 2100 to
support climate change vulnerability and adaptation
studies. Others include the development and
implementation of the framework for carbon trade
under the clean development mechanism (CDM)
and an electronic data archival and retrieval
systems to support all climate change research and
policy issues in Nigeria. |
