OAU ADVANCEMENT OFFICE HOLDS WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS
The University Advancement Office, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, at the instance of the authorities of the institution, has held a pre-alumni workshop for graduating students to prepare and equip them for the challenges of life after University education, and to introduce them to the “Great Ife” Alumni Association.
In the flag-off remark delivered at the workshop on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Faborode, by the Dean of Students’ Affair, Dr. (Mrs.) Durosimi, the participants were admonished to look inward and utilize their God-given potentials in their quest for greatness in life, stressing that the University would leave no stone unturned in the quest to equip them adequately for the realities and challenges of life after school.
The Vice-Chancellor, while counseling that true and enduring success comes only through hard work and self-determination, emphasized the need for the participants to embrace entrepreneurial and other commercial venture skills that would guarantee gainful employment after University education, rather than relying solely on government and corporate organizations for employment.
Also in her welcome address, the Executive Director of the University Advancement Office, Mrs. Ronke Ajibola, affirmed that the essence of the workshop is to arouse and properly guide the graduating students to the consciousness that there is life after the four walls of the University, noting that surviving and excelling under the prevailing socio-economic conditions of the world at large requires greater preparation not only academically but also mentally and psychologically.
The President of “Great Ife” Alumni Association, Mr. Wole Olaoye, represented by the Chairperson of the Home Branch, Mrs. Bisi Anyadike, similarly charged the graduating students to reach deep within themselves and conquer all odds, as “Great Ife” has imparted in them, the rich heritage that would make sky the beginning of their ascendancy.
The workshop, tagged “Beyond Road-1”, featured an illustrious alumnus of the University, Mr. Isaac Orolugbagbe, Managing Director, Western Cape Wines Ltd. Lagos, as guest speaker, and he shared real life experiences with the graduating students, especially his successful career as a chartered accountant and corporate financial manager despite his qualification as a Chemist.
An unprecedented turnout attended the pre-alumni workshop which was hosted at the prestigious Oduduwa Hall of the University.
