Obafemi Awolowo University International School (OAUIS), Ile-Ife was established as a result of "dissatisfaction of the members of the staff of the University with the performance of the existing Secondary School on campus and the incessant, protracted strike action of the teachers in the State Secondary Schools". As a result of this, a group of concerned parents took their case to the University authority. In December 1999, the then Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.O.A. Makanjuola constituted an interim Committee to work out the feasibility of establishing a secondary school for the Staff children. The school formerly took off on the 24th of January, 2000 with an environment figure of about 100 students, 33 pioneering teachers and an acting Principal in person of Mrs E.O. Oyebisi. In May/June 2000, the first set of SS3 students wrote their Senior School Certificate Examination while the pioneering JS3 students wrote their junior NECO Examinations in the same year. On July 31st 2000, the school was officially commissioned. Today, the school has moved to her permanent site and enrollment figures stand at over 700 students with over seventy(70) Staff members (Teaching and Non Teaching), two (2) Vice Principals and one Principal on ground. On the 11th December 2000, the Governing Board of the school was inaugurated under the Chairmanship of the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.O.A. Makanjuola. OAU International School has achieved high academic standards within a few years of existence with good JSS and SSS WAEC and NECO Results. It is a dream come true for the founding fathers. Great! Great!! Great!!! OAU International School!!!! |
