OAU GRADUATES BAG BEST DOCTORAL THESES AWARD


Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has, again, proved to be the flagship of academic excellence and bedrock of giant intellectualism as two of its graduates, Messrs OKE, Isaiah Adesola and OSUNBITAN, Jimmy Akinfemi emerged winners for awards under the Nigerian Universities’ Doctoral Theses Award Scheme (NUDTAS) Best Thesis in Engineering/Technology for 2006 and 2007 respectively.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that Oke Adesola whose title of Thesis is “Development and Performance – Testing of an Electrochemical Treatment Process for Selected Industrial Wastewater” was supervised by Professor M.O. Ogedengbe while Osunbitan Akinfemi’s thesis was titled “Stimulating Soil and Groundwater Contamination by Copper and Manganese from Agricultural Fungicides” was supervised by the duo of Professor Patrick Aina and Dr. Adekalu.

In a letter dated 11th February, 2010 with reference no. NUC/NUDTAS/2010/2006-2007 AWARDS by the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Professor Patrick Okojie, stated that NUDTAS is a prestigious award scheme organized annually to identify, promote and reward good academic scholarship in doctoral theses in Nigerian Universities with a view to attaining international standards.

According to Prof. Okojie, the award presentation shall hold on Thursday, 18th March, 2010 after a 30 – minute oral presentation by the winners on Tuesday and Wednesday, 16th and 17th March, 2010.
