YOU CAN FEED YOURSELVES: ENVOY TELLS NIGERIANS
Nigeria has been described as a country that is well endowed by God with abundance of human and natural resources, surplus enough to feed her citizens and the whole continent
of Africa.

The Israel ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Moshe Ram, disclosed this at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, when he paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Faborode, in his office.

A release signed by the University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, states that, the envoy who came to deliver a lecture titled: “The Path We Took”, on the invitation of the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), OAU, Chapter, said Israel is a State of farmers and this makes it totally impossible for her to be in want, food-wise, urging Nigeria to do more in the area of Agriculture so that she would not only be a food-producing Nation but also a food-exporting Nation.

Mr. Moshen Ram, who said he had come in contact with extremely capable people who are Nigerians, wondered what is wrong with the “Giant of Africa”, adding that talents, ability and capability of her citizens can make it a world power.

The ambassador who felt delighted addressing OAU students whom he excitedly described as the future leaders of Nigeria, said that Israel government will be very happy to enter into partnership with Obafemi Awolowo University, in any area, particularly Agriculture, Technology, Health and Science, adding that the door is left open for more opportunities, between OAU and Universities in Israel.

He, then, appealed to Nigerians to do more of farming, stating that Nigeria is a country where vegetation is naturally green without formal application of fertilizer, and that all natural resources that other Nations lack are in superlative abundance in Nigeria.

The envoy, thereafter, implored Nigerians to be thankful to God for being so endowed, adding that with brilliant and innovative youths like OAU students, the future of the country is bright and guaranteed, and that the Nation will have no excuse to be poor.

SUG EXCO URGED TO EMBRACE DIALOGUE
The Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Michael Faborode has advised the Executive members of the Students Union to employ the use of dialogue in resolving issues with
any constituted authority.

The Vice-Chancellor gave this advice at the post-inauguration parley between the University and the newly elected Students’ Union executives.

He also urged the executives to maintain a cordial relationship with the University management that would be devoid of any form of strife. He went further to remind them to see themselves as the future leaders of the nation and that they should discard the toga of “Aluta” and brigandage which does not solve any problem.

Professor Faborode commended to the students for maintaining high academic standards and moral excellence for which the University was noted for adding that any student or group of students that had done the University proud would have their names in the roll of honour.

He stated that accommodation problems would soon be resolved because the Management in collaboration with friends and Alumni of the University are planning to build more hostels and that students would be part of the Committee that would be put in place to address issues bothering on their welfare.

Earlier, the newly elected President of the Students Union, Mr. Adejuwon Davidson (a.k.a. Devaino) had eulogized the Vice-Chancellor for un-banning the Union, promising that they would henceforth engage dialogue and negotiation in their dealings with the University Management.

Present at the occasion were the Registrar, Mr. Ayo Ogunruku, Provosts, Dean, Students Affairs, Dr (Mrs.) Lateefat Durosinmi, other Deans and some heads of departments.

EMPLOY DIALOGUE: OAU TELLS STUDENTS UNION EXCO
The members of the executive of the newly restored Students Union of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have been advised to employ the use of dialogue and constructive engagement
for amicable resolution of issues with any constituted authority, either the University Management or Federal Government. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Michael Faborode, gave the advice during a post-inauguration parley between the University authority and the Students’ Union executives.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju states that the Vice-Chancellor, who said that in the past, the Students Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, was noted for constructive agitation to right the wrongs in the society, urged the present Students Union Executive to be operating at a closer frequency with the University Management so that there would be proper understanding and more harmonious working relationship.

He implored them to see themselves as the future of the Nation and leaders of greater Nigeria, noting that wearing the toga of unnecessary ‘Aluta’ and brigandage would not solve any problem.

Professor Faborode then gave kudos to the students generally for maintaining the high academic standards and moral excellence for which the University is noted for, adding that any student or group of students that has done the University proud would have his/her names in the roll of honour.

Responding to the issue of accommodation, Prof. Faborode informed the students that the Management, in collaboration with the Friends and Alumni of the University, is planning to build more hostels that will reduce, if not eradicate, accommodation problem of students, adding that students will be part of the committee(s) that will be put in place to address issues bothering on their welfare.

He then, charged them to appreciate the kind gesture and sacrifices made by members of staff so that they may be encouraged to do more for them wherever the need arises.

Earlier, the President of the Students Union Mr. Adejuwon Davidson (a.k.a. Devaino) had eulogized the Vice-Chancellor for deeming it fit to unban their Union, promising that they would do everything possible to engage dialogue and negotiation in their dealings with the University Management.

Adejuwon then implored the University Authority to see them as children, saying that correcting them gently anytime they want to demonstrate undue exuberance would go a long way in having peace on campus and uninterrupted academic calendar.

Present at the parley were the Registrar, Mr. Ayo Ogunruku, Provosts and Deans, and some heads of department, including the Dean, Students Affairs, Dr (Mrs.) Lateefat Durosimi.

AICTTRA CONFERENCE CONTINUES
The AICTTRA international conference on ICT Applications continued today at the Conference Centre. One of the speakers Mrs.Adebajo spoke on 'Improving Communication Capacity in Personal
Administrator Challenges facing ICT' She delved into challenges such as poor penetration of IT into crucial part of the registry,low bandwidth and gross under-utilization of existing ICT infrastructure.

During the 4th plenary session, Dr. M.O Afolabi spoke on 'The Use of Mobile Telephone Messaging System to Improve Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy' declaring that the study of this application is just starting and that soon telephones would be of immense help in anti-retroviral therapy.

Also Mr. A.F Bayeire from COPINE, O.A.U spoke on 'Human-Data Interface Software for Linking Development Stakeholder' with NYSC as a case-study. He explained that a software has been developed which would help stop the impersonification NYSC faces yearly.

The 3rd Speaker during the course of the session, MR K.G. Akintola from Dept of Computer Science, FUTA, Nigeria talked on‘Component Analysis of E-Government Implementation in Nigeria’ shedding more light on how electronics can be more effectively in Government.

This was followed by a question and answer session as many who were intrigued by the lot of possible ICT applications raised questions and were answered.

The Conference continues tomorrow at the same venue.
