You are welcome to the website of the Faculty of Technology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The faculty was founded at a time when the nation lacked indigenous engineering manpower and the vision of the founding fathers was to have a center of excellence where pressing national problems in the sphere of engineering could be solved, and where engineers who could competently meet the nation’s technical needs were trained. True to that vision, the faculty is today generally regarded as the strongest engineering faculty in Nigeria in terms of quality of output, both in terms of research and the students we produce.

Members of staff of the faculty are involved in important research areas and the eight academic departments and one research unit of the faculty all have strong records of excellence in both national and international spheres. Faculty researchers have interests spanning both matured, traditional research areas and some of the most exciting emerging disciplines. For example, biotechnology research groups have been in operation for some years now, while a number of members of staff are working with carbon nanotubes. The faculty is also recognized as being one of the pioneers on the African continent in the emerging field of remote and virtual laboratories.

Our students are another area of strength. Students of the faculty always excel after graduation and play important roles in the development of Nigeria. Our students are taught to imbibe the culture of creativity, hard work and discipline very early and this is a good reason why they are highly valued by employers. They are instructed by some of the best-regarded teachers in the country, who have, from time to time, introduced pedagogical innovations which are then copied by other institutions.

The university prides itself with being at the forefront of research, development and application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the faculty is certainly a major player in justifying this reputation. The departments and unit in the faculty are all at various stages of modifying their workflow to more efficiently leverage on ICT tools and faculty staff and students are at the forefront of developing new ICT tools for both local and external use.

With national relevance assured, the drive of the faculty is now to be one of the best in the world. For this reason, we are always looking for partners. One of our strongest areas of need is funding to continue to equip our research and teaching laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities and we welcome alumni and other well-wishers who wish to invest in this drive.

I hope you have a nice time on our website and if you need any further information, please feel free to write to any of the contact addresses on the website.
