The Faculty was established in 1962 as one the foundation faculties of the University. The faculty houses seven degree programme in Demography and Social Statistics, Economics, Geography, Political Sciences, Political – Philosophy – Economics, Psychology and Sociology & Anthropology. It runs both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in these programmes. The faculty nurtures intellectual and creative talents in its staff and students; through the high premium it places on scholarly research and publications particularly for career advancement particularly for career advancement and in the students, through a rigorous training in its well designed academic programmes.
