The principal objective of the faculty programmes is to disseminate and expand knowledge in the principles and applications of social scientific enquires and to thereby contribute rationally to the development of humankind and human resource requirements for national development to meet the dynamic global social challenges. Therefore each department is expected to :

•  To train students who are not just familiar with received theories, but who are also conscious of the limitations of these theories as they relate to societal aspirations in a setting like Nigeria .

•  To develop analytical skills in students for designing and formulating policies which are of social relevance.

•  To produce graduates who can be critical of social issues with a view to contributing to knowledge as well as identify and providing solution to social problems.

•  To train students who are thoroughly familiar with the Nigeria social scenes and its relation to the international social environment.
