INTRODUCTION
The Department of Demography and Social Statistics was created at the beginning of the 1975/76 academic session out of the former Institute of Population and manpower Studies which had been supported since October, 1968 with grants from the Population Council, new York.
In its M.Sc and Ph.D programmes, the Department of Demography and Social Statistics aims to provide courses of instruction in Demography and Social Statistics, to provide opportunity for research into population and related social problems in Nigeria and to provide consultancy services.

Master of Science in Demography and Social Statistics (M.Sc)
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Masters degreesin Demography and Social Statistics: A candidate for admission to Masters Degree in Demography and Social Statistics (MDS) will be a graduate of Social Sciences or related discipline of the Obafemi Awolowo university or any other approved University. Candidates whose degree are not in demography and Social Statistics will be expected to have had
at least three years of relevant working experience.
Master of Science in Demography and Social Statistics: A candidate for admission to the M.Sc programme will be a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University or any other approved university and will normally be expected to hold a Second Class Lower (Honour) degree in Demography or other relevant discipline.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D): Candidate for admission to the Ph.D programme shall be a candidate with overall B+ in the M.Sc with thesis of the Obafemi Awolowo University or any other approved University.
DURATION OF COURSE
I. Master Programme:
- MDS: Candidates will be required to pursue full-time course of study for not less than twelve calendar months
- M.Sc: Candidate will be required to pursue full-time course of study for not less than two semesters but not more than 4 Semesters.
II. Ph.D: The programme will last for a minimum of four (4) semesters after M.Sc
