The maiden edition of the quarterly Faculty of Science
Obafemi Awolowo University Newsletter was launched on the 31st of
March, 2008 under the chairmanship of
Prof. E. E. Okon of Zoology Department. The Dean of the Faculty,
Prof. V. O. Olarewaju gave the welcome address. The Chief Launcher
at the occasion was the Branch Manager of Zenith Bank, Mr. Tunji
Oladosu ably represented by Mr. Ogwumike Onyekwere, the Deputy
Manager. Also in attendance were the Vice-Dean, Dr. (Mrs.) O.
Adedeji, Heads of Departments in the Faculty, Principal Officers of
the University and Directors of Institutes.

Ife
Journal of Science
The Faculty Journal, Ife Journal of Science (IJS), is a
Journal for dissemination of research findings. It covers
broad areas of Chemical, Biological, Mathematical and
Physical Sciences. The Journal was resuscitated in 2003 with
issue Number 1 of volume 6 published in June 2004 under the
Managing Editorship of Prof. O. O. Jegede. There are three
reviewers for each manuscript and the Managing Editor makes
the final decision. The Journal currently has an
18-member/editorial board with Prof.
D. O. Kolawole of Microbiology Department as the Editor-in
Chief and Prof. C. A. Obafemi of the Department of Chemistry
as the Managing Editor.
Manuscripts are usually submitted electronically (or two
hard copies and a soft copy) to Prof. C. A. Obafemi,
Department of Chemistry, Obafemi Awolowo University,
Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

Dapo
Afolabi Most Productive Researcher Award
The Dapo Afolabi is annual award for the most productive
researcher in the Faculty.
The
winner will be presented with a cheque for one hundred
thousand naira (N100,000) being part of the interest from a
one Million Naira endowment fund donated to the Faculty by
Prof. Dapo Afolabi. This will be an annual event.

Upcoming Events
The 2007 Accreditation Exercise
The Accreditation Panel for our Faculty arrived on the 17th
November, 2007. The Panel assessed for accreditation the
Departments of Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Geology and
Physics. The Panel concluded its work on Tuesday 20th December,
2007.
The Faculty Board Meetings 2008
The Faculty Board Meetings for the year 2008 will
hold as listed:
- Monday 3rd March,
- Monday, 5th May,
- Tuesday, 1st July, and
- Monday, 1st September.
