AREA OF SPECIALIZATION Natural Products activities in malarial infection and Inflammatory reactions, Neuropharmacology and Toxicology
RESEARCH INTEREST:
-
Ethnopharmacology: Identification of phytochemical constituents and Pharmacological Properties of Medicinal plants used as traditional medicine remedies in Malaria and Inflammatory reactions in particular which could be caused by various factors like: infections, pain, cell membrane integrity and free radical generation in disease conditions.
-
Malaria: (i) Evaluation of the sensitivity of human and rodent malaria parasites to chemotherapeutic agents using synthetic drugs and medicinal plant materials.
(ii) Evaluation of the Determinant factors in resistant malarial parasites (in-vitro), using a continuous culture procedure.
-
- Neuropharmacology and Toxicology: Examining the behavioural (CNS) effects of natural/medicinal plant products and evaluating the safety, signs and symptoms of acute and chronic toxicity of constitutents or substances from natural (both plants and animals) sources.
