GENERAL REGULATIONS FOR THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF PHARMACY
DEGREE AWARDED
1. Candidates for the first degree in the Faculty will proceed to the Degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.).
2. The Degree shall be awarded without classification. Students with exceptional performances in the overall examination will however be awarded distinction.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- The minimum requirements for admission to B.Pharm. degree are those for entry
into Obafemi Awolowo University except that the qualifying subjects must include:
English, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.
- No candidate who was admitted into Part I (pre-professional) programme may
proceed to Part II of the B.Pharm. degree programme until he has passed the preprofessional
year programme in its entirety.
- Candidates seeking direct admission to Part II of the B.Pharm. degree programme
must satisfy the matriculation requirements of the university and must in addition -
have good advanced level GCE at Principal level or in equivalent
examinations in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two sittings
or must have qualifications or degrees which as assessed by the Faculty Board
of Pharmacy are equivalent. be graduates of other universities with programmes showing good
performances in the Biological and physical Sciences in the transcript.
- The course of study for the B.Pharm. degree shall extend over not less than four
academic years after the pre-professional year.
- (i) Candidates who hold qualifications higher than those prescribed as minimum
requirements may be allowed to satisfy the residence requirements in a shorter
period after their qualifications have been assessed by the Faculty Board. For
the purpose of such assessment, passes at "A" level at General Certificate of
Education or at Principal Level of the Higher School Certificate, shall be
equated to equivalent courses at 100 level and recommended for the credit
points to be awarded for the level of performance.
(ii) The academic transcripts of students transferred from other Universities will
be assessed in the manner prescribed in the foregoing sub-section.

(i) Work load is defined in terms of course units.
(ii) All courses shall run for one semester, or two semesters and in general one
hour lecture or tutorial period, or a 2- to 4-hour laboratory period per week
over one semester shall count as one unit.
(iii) The maximum unit of work for which students may be allowed to enroll shall
be 24 units in any one semester. The minimum loads are those indicated in the
schedule of courses.
(iv) All students are expected to attend up to 75% of all practicals and theory
classes before admission into examinations.
