Drug Development from Natural Products
Our abundant natural products - medicinal plants, animals, and inorganic residues - remain a good source of our medicines and pharmaceutical products. Of these, higher plants are comparatively cheap sources of very important active substances for the pharmaceutical industry.

Bridging the gap between Traditional Medical Practitioners and Modern Pharmaceutical Practice:
Two major seminars were organized especially for Traditional Medical Practitioners (TMP) in order to expose them to modern technological tools and knowledge that would enhance their practice. The themes were

  1. New Horizons in herbal Medicines and
  2. Phytomedicines in Malaria and Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Challenges for the new millennium

In spite of these two seminars . The Unit discovered that only privilege few were able to benefit in the training workshops as such , The Unit in collaboration with some selected Local Government Councils in Osun State took the training to the Local Government areas .Successful seminars were held at Aiyedade Local Government, Ife South Local Government etc. The Unit was also involved in the Schistosomiasis control programme in Ondo State , Nigeria
