| UNIT'S ACHIEVEMENTS |
- DRPU is a TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme Centre of Excellence.
- The Unit concluded researches and submitted a comprehensive report on the chemistry of Zanthoxylum leprieurii (De Wild) Waterm.
- The production of our main line drugs - paracetamol tablets and elixir and chloroquine syrup which we sell to the hospitals, pharmacies and Health Centres in and around Ile-Ife.
- The Unit submitted a comprehensive report on the effects of standard extracts of Tetrapleura tetraptera Taub. on schistosomiasis transmission in southwest Nigeria to the University research Committee.
- The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) selected DRPU as a
TWAS Research Unit and approved the sum of $ 20,000USD in support our
project titled Antiprotozoal activities of Nigerian Medicinal Plants for a period of
one year to purchase equipment for the project (August 2007- July 2008)
- DRPU came top as the University's Additional Centre of Excellence.

INVENTIONS |
- The Unit made a lot of progress on the production of two brands of herb teas tagged, 'the Chancellor' and 'Tonic tea'. The Unit is still working hard to get the production registered by NAFDAC.
- Production of Aridan soap on pilot scale
- The successful collection of herbal remedies from various herbal homes in Nigeria; biological screening of some of these has shown extracts with anticonvulsant, antimalarial, anthelmintic, hypotensive, and anti-infective properties.
- The identification and synthesis of many biologically-active compounds isolated from Nigerian Medicinal Plants.
- The recognition of Tetrapleura tetraptera (Aridan) as a potent molluscicide for the control of schistosomiasis and the identification of aridanin, a major molluscicidal agent of the aridan fruit and various other plant extracts and isolates with molluscicidal activity.
- The successful sourcing of some food and pharmaceutical raw materials e.g. sweetener protein from Thaumatococcus danielli , starch from roots and fruits of
- plants; formulation adjuvants e.g. fats for substitution in conventional dosage formulae.
- The identification of plant extracts e.g. DRPU KG as potential herbal source of anti-malarial drug, even effective against chloroquine resistant strains.
- The successful formulation of some topical antifungal ointments - DRPU HA, DRPU AG, DRPU RW from some of our medicinal plants.
- The successful sourcing of tablets of Cassia for use as laxatives.
