Dean's Welcome Speech
It is with the greatest pleasure welcoming you to the web pages of the Faculty of Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Since August 2003, the Faculty has been engaged in a process of creative regeneration aimed at increasing the productive capacity of our staff as researchers and teachers and expanding our international focus at a critical time in the history of the academe in Nigeria. The Faculty has always been in the forefront of scholastic activism and had always charted the road for others to follow. The Faculty has numbered among its academic staff past and present several distinguished scholars including Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, currently Emeritus Professor of Dramatic Arts.
The Faculty Alumni are among the most distinguished in their chosen professions not only nationally but also internationally. Our alumni are making waves in various areas of human endeavour: political leadership and public service, academics, business, the media, entertainment, etc. The current generation of students has a lot to look forward to given the careers of their illustrious predecessors in the Faculty.
Our immediate contacts in seeking to expand our international focus are our former faculty and students located in various institutions and occupying important positions in different parts of the world. Indeed, their achievements in their places of sojourn give us comfort that our Faculty still has much to offer the world.
Take time to visit the various Departmental Home Pages to avail yourself of important information about our academic programmes and Faculty. But please note that we are currently engaged in comprehensive curriculum review to reflect important changes and developments in scholarship. New courses are being designed and would soon be introduced.
If you are an alumnus/alumnae, take time and if you have never filled the alumni tracking form, please take a few minutes to fill out the form. Also, kindly spread the word: inform other alumni. More importantly, we love to hear from you.
