dotDEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

The Department has evolved to become a highly specialised academic and professional department in the training of middle and senior level manpower for the public service in Nigeria and other African Countries.

dotDEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

 The objectives of the B.Sc. (International Relations) Degree programme are:

1. To produce Graduates of International Relations who will be able to make valuable and effective contributions to national development as well as the understanding of its international dimensions.

2. To train students who will be equipped to analyse and undertake research on international affairs.

3. To develop a critical outlook on questions relating to the theory and practice of political activity at the level of international society as well as strategies and economic matters at the international level. In this way, it will provide an inter-disciplinary approach to the study of international issues.

4. Because the programme is multi-disciplinary in subject and approach it is tailored to meet the requirements of both those students who may want to make a career in the national and international public services, Media, industries and those who want to pursue academic careers in International Relations and cognate disciplines.

dotDEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTING

The Department offers both an undergraduate programme leading to the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Accounting (B.Sc. Accounting) and a series of graduate programme for diplomas and higher degrees. The details about all the Postgraduate Programmes offered in the Department are explained in a separate brochure obtainable from the Head of Department.

Objectives

The fundamental aim of the programme is to develop the student to become an accomplished financial manager and accountant capable of making valuable contributions to knowledge and practice in his areas of specialisation.

  • The provision of basic knowledge needed for an understanding and analysis of problems to the management or administration of industrial, commercial public and other human organisations.
  • The equipment of students of accounting and financial management in administration or management with the skills needed for recognising and defining problems and taking appropriate decisions, using scientific, techniques and tools.
  • The inculcation in students of an awareness of key environmental factors and their impact on managerial/administrative practice and decisions
  • The development of leadership and interpersional relation skills which are needed for working in organisations.

dotDEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT STUDIES

Types of Programmes

- Two Year Diploma Programme in Local Government (DLG) for serving officers of Local Governments)

- Advanced Diploma in Local Government (ADLG)

- Postgraduate Diploma in Local Government (PGDLG)

- Master of Science Degree in Local Government (M.Sc.)

- Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Local Government Studies (Ph.D.)

Short-term Courses are offered in:

- Accounting/Finance

- Local Government Administration/Management

- Community/Social Serves

- Project Evaluation/Maintenance

- Rural and Urban Problems

- Tax and Revenue Administration.
