IFUMSA: An Association of Care and Concern
Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Students' Association IFUMSA is an assembly of beautiful brains; a conglomeration of intellectuals with a common goal of improving and sustaining the human race. Her members include all medical students in all classes – Part 1 – 6.
This association has keen interest in developing her members in all areas of human endeavor ranging from Academics, Socials to Sports and Politics. Since the commencement of this Medical school in 1978, IFUMSA has grown in number and strength, with bodies and organs which carry out specified roles towards the common goals of making you. How? Here are the ways:
The Aims and Objectives of the Association include:
• To cater for the general welfare and interest of all Medical Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile – Ife .
• To maintain a high standard of ethics among Medical Students.
• To contribute to the upliftment of the Health Conditions and general welfare of the people by rendering assistance in all community programmes where Medical Students can be of help.
• To provide a forum for co-operation and interaction between Medical students and members of staff of the Faculty.
• To provide a forum for co-operation and interaction with other student bodies within and outside the university.
The structure of IFUMSA comprises
• EXECUTIVE BODY: Here are Ten (10) Elected Executives saddled with the responsibility of running the affairs of the association. The ten posts are listed below.
• LEGISLATIVE BODY: This is called The Students, Representative Body/(SRB) with five (5) representatives from each class called constituency. It acts as check on the activities of IFUMSA. It is headed by a chairman assisted by a Deputy Chairman and a Clerk. Other medical students, not representatives, can also attend sittings.
• ORGANS: These the
* Journal Club (IFEMED) in charge of the IFEMED journal and the ‘Campus Doctor', an editorial board.
* Qui= Club: its members representative the Association in all categories of Quiz and debates.
* Committee: These include Audit, Constitution Review, disciplinary, Electoral, Election Petition, and Social, Sports, Welfare and the Ad-hoc committee
You can join any of the clubs and the committee if you can meet the requirements as stated by the Constitution and heads of the Clubs.
IFUMSA Constitution
This is the provisional guideline for all the activities of the organs and the bodies in the IFUMSA. It is supreme and the provisions have a binding force on all member and organs of IFUMSA. When you get a copy of it in your package, you are advised to read it.
