TED is a global foundation focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas. It curates the world’s leading ideas conference and it started out with a focus on Technology, Entertainment and Design; since then its scope has become even broader.

The inaugural TedxIfe event held in April, 2012 and the 2013 event, TedxIfe 2.0, has been themed ‘Bigger Pictures’. TedxIfe 2.0 focuses on ideas, youth employability and social innovations.

The speakers include Obi Asika (foremost entertainment CEO), Prof. ‘Remi Sonaiya (academic and politician), Ore Somolu (founder, W.TEC), Seun Onigbinde (founder, BudgIT), James Maduekeh (investment banker and founder YBM Africa), Ifeoma Williams (image consultant and fashion expert), Uduak Isong (acclaimed movie producer), and Emmanuel Okeleji (organizer, Employment Edge and founder, Insidify.com).

There will be an innovation lounge at the event showcasing the most innovative projects in technology and arts initiated by students of Obafemi Awolowo University.

Professor Omole stated that OAU’s Centre for Distance Learning had been rated high as a centre of excellence in Distance Learning Education and promised that the University would  invest in both the human and physical resources of the centre to ensure its continued success.

The proposed building when completed would house the E – Learning Resource Centre which was a basic requirement by NUC that all Distance Learning Centres should be IT complaint.

Earlier, the Director, for Centre for Distance Learning, Professor F.O.I Asubiojo, commended the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael Faborode, for making concerted efforts to see that the centre was relocated to its permanent site but could not be carried out before now due to paucity of funds until an arrangement was concluded with the contactor for counterpart funding by the University and the Contractor in March, 2012.

He went on to thank the VC, Professor Bamitale Omole, and his Management team as well as the members of the Governing Board of the Centre for their commitment to the growth of the Centre for Distance Learning.

The Lead Consultant of the project, Mr. Misan Egbe, said the master plan of the Centre would replicate the standard, beauty and style of OAU campus. He equally said the centre would not only serve its primary academic purpose alone but would also serve as a resource centre for the use of corporate bodies.

The Contractor, Messers Platform Concept Nigeria Limited, was therefore enjoined to build an edifice that would further sell him and carve a niche for himself through his work.

Adesanya, Director PPDU Mr. J.A Ayodeji, Director, Centre for Distance Learning ProfessorF.O.I Asubiojo, Deputy Director, CDL Dr. Mike Adeyeye, Mrs. Ogunkoya, CDL, Mrs. Ogunruku, Ag. Director, Corporate Services and other members of staff of the CDL.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole, hosted the athletes that represented the University at the 13^th West African University Games (WAUG) at the University of Ilorin from 27^thMarch, to 7^th April, 2012 to a colorful reception on Saturday, 2^ndJune, 2012 at the main bowl of the Sports Complex. Prof. Omole gave Cash awards ranging from N20, 000 to each Gold medalist, N15, 000 to Silver medalist, N11, 000 to Bronze medalist and N8, 000 to non medalist were given to the athletes.

The Vice-Chancellor, while delivering his speech, lauded the athletes and the officials for their commitment in transforming the name of the University by not fielding non student at the competition. He maintained that the University administration would continue to motivate dedicated and committed athletes at all times.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed further that the University would soon commence full rehabilitations of Sporting facilities at the Sports Centre particularly the construction of Olympic size swimming pool of which construction work was already in progress and the laying of tartan tracks which would commence in due course in readiness for the 24^th edition of NUGA Games to be hosted later in the year.

Obafemi Awolowo University came 9^th out of 53 Universities across West Africa Sub-region that participated in the competition. In a friendly match to commemorate the award ceremony, Obafemi Awolowo University football team defeated Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu football team by 3 goals to 1.

Other dignitaries in the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor A.T. Salami, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor S.A. Great Ife Alumni Association held its 20^th Biennial Convention between Thursday, 24^th May, 2012 to Sunday 27^th May, 2012

Delegates from all over the Federation started arriving on the Campus from Thursday 24^thMay, 2012 and the Convention kick-started with a cocktail at Floor “O” of the University’s Secretariat building.

In attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellors, the University’s Registrar, the Acting Bursar, the University Librarian, National Executive Council members of Great Ife Alumni Association, Branch Chairmen and Delegates from all Great Ife Alumni Association Chapters, Gambia Branch Chairman, Home Branch Executive members, Guest Speakers, other Distinguished Alumni, friends and well -wishers of our priceless University.

The entire Congregation thereafter moved into Oduduwa Hall for the Convention Play where artistes of Awovarsity Theatre entertained the audience with the pay titled the Beautification of Area Boy by Wole Soyinka.

On Friday, 25^th May, 2012 Registration of Delegates continued and a Campus Tour was embarked on. The National Executive Council members meeting held thereafter at Floor O of the University Secretariat. Delegates and Members of Great Ife Alumni Association were at the University’s Central Mosque to offer prayers for the University. The entire team thereafter proceeded to Oduduwa Hall for the 20^th Biennial Convention Lecture. As expected, the Lead Speaker, Prof Ahmed Danfulani and the Group of Discussants, made the event a worthwhile one,.

The Convention Dinner held at Ogunbanjo Hall later in the evening and everyone had their fill.

Saturday, the 26^th May, 2012 was slated for election and the peaceful election was conducted at the Main Hall of the University’s Conference Centre. The new set of National Executive Council members of GREAT IFE Alumni Association, led by Alhaji Adeola S. Sokunbi (returned unopposed) were sworn in amongst pomp and pageantry and they were charged with the responsibility of steering the affairs of the Alumni Association for the next two years (2012 – 2014).

Warri Branch Chairman and his Executive members treated everyone to a sumptuous Luncheon at Ogunbajo Hall immediately after the elections.

A drink-up Session was also organised for all Delegates, Partners, Friends and well-wishers of GREAT IFE at the Alumni Centre later in the evening.

A thanksgiving Service took place at the All Souls Chapel on Sunday, 27^th May, 2012 before members departed for their various destinations.
