Undergraduate Studies in OAU

Application Procedure:
Applicants seeking admission to Part I (First Year) of a degree course in the University must be qualified for admission before the beginning of the session in which they wish to enter.

The applicants must meet both:
(i) the general entrance requirements, and
(ii) additional Faculty or Departmental course requirements.

Students intending to enter the University are advised to obtain information from the University about entry requirements to ensure that they have satisfied the requirements by the time they apply for admission.

Applications for courses leading to first degrees must be made on the
prescribed form obtainable from the Registrar, Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board, Suleja Road, Bwari, PMB 189, Garki, Abuja.

General Entrance Requirements
The minimum entry requirements to the first year is a General Certificate of Education (or equivalent) with Credit passes in at least five subjects chosen from a list approved from time to time by Senate provided that in each case all the five subjects are taken and passed at not more than two sittings.

(i) One of the passes shall be a pass at ‘O’ Level or equivalent in English Language.

(ii) Except in the cases of candidate for admission to the
Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Law, and for the Bachelor of Arts in Education in the Faculty of Education, one of the credit passes shall be a pass at ‘O’ Level or equivalent in Mathematics.

(iii) A pass in the General Paper of the Higher School
Certificate is regarded as equivalent to a credit pass in
English Language at ‘O’ Level.

Additional Faculty or Departmental Course Requirements
In addition to satisfying the minimum requirements indicated in regulations 1 and 2 of these regulations, candidates for the courses listed below must, among the five subjects presented in fulfilment of minimum requirements, also include the subjects and satisfy the other requirements indicated. It may be assumed that further requirements are not imposed for any degree course not shown in the following list.

College of Health Sciences
(i) M.B.Ch.B. Medicine B.Ch.D. Dentistry: ‘O’ Level or equivalent in Biology or Zoology, Chemistry and Physics.

(ii) B.Sc. Environmental Health: ‘O’ Level in at least two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

(iii) B.Sc. Medical Rehabilitation: ‘O’ Level or equivalent
in Biology or Zoology, Chemistry and Physics.

(iv) B.N.Sc. Nursing: ‘O’ Level in at least two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

Faculty of Administration
(i)B.Sc. Accounting: ‘O’ Level Mathematics

Faculty of Agriculture (All undergraduate Programmes)
‘O’ Level in Chemistry and either Biology or Agricultural Sciences.

Faculty of Arts
(i) B.A. Dramatic Arts
(a) At least one literature subject
(b) A departmental audition in drama, dance, or music.

(ii) B.A. English Language: ‘O’ Level credits to include Literature in English, English Language and other Arts subject.

(iii) B.A. Literature in English: ‘O’ Level credits to include Literature in English, English Language and other Arts subject.

(iv) B.A. Foreign Language: ‘O’ Level or equivalent in the proposed Languages.

(v) B.A. Music
(a) ‘O’ Level or equivalent
(b) A pass in departmental in Music, or Grade 8 examination. O’ Level or
(Theory), Certificate of equivalent in the Yoruba the ABRSM or a pass in
a departmental examination.

Faculty of Education
(i) B.A./B.Sc. Physical Education
A departmental interview.
(ii) B.A. Education: Special requirements for courses involving Arts subjects are identical with corresponding courses in the Faculty of Arts.

(iii) B.Sc. Education: Special requirements are the same as for the Faculty of Science (See below)

(iv) B.Sc. Education: (Social Science) Special requirements are the same as for the Faculty of Social Sciences

Faculty of Environmental Design and Management
(i) B.Sc. (Architecture): Five credits in School Certificate or equivalent including English and Mathematics.

(ii) B.A. (Fine Arts): ‘O’ Level or equivalent in Art. Candidates may also be required to attend an interview in the department.

(iii) B.Sc. (Building): Preference will be given to candidates with subject selected from the following: Physics, Geography, Fine Arts, Technical drawing, Chemistry and Economics.

(iv) B.Sc. (Quant. Surveying): Preference will be given to candidates with
subject selected from the following: Physics, Geography, Fine Arts, Technical drawing, Chemistry and Economics.

(v) B.Sc. (Estate Management): Preference will be given to candidates with subject selected from the following: Physics, Geography, Fine Arts, Technical drawing, Chemistry and Economics.

(vi) B.Sc. (Urban & Regional Planning): Preference will be given to candidates with subject selected from the following: Physics, Geography, Fine Arts, Technical drawing, Chemistry and Economics.

Faculty of Pharmacy
B.Pharm: ‘O’ Level or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Faculty of Science
B.Sc. ‘O’ Level or equivalent in at least two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science.

Faculty of Technology
(i) B.Sc. (Agric. Eng.): ‘O’ Level or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, and
Physics.

(ii) B.Sc. (F.S.T.): ‘O’ Level in Biology and one other Science subject

(iii) All other Degrees: ‘O’ Level or equivalent in Physics and Chemistry.
