About the REGISTRY
The Registry is the hub of administrative support for the University and encompasses a diverse range of University offices and directorates. The Registry is supervised by the Registrar who is the chief administrative officer of the University and the head of the Unified Administrative Service.
OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR
The Office of the Registrar is located on the 3rd floor of the multi-storey University Hall building, also referred to as the "Senate Building". The Registrar's Office is the nucleus of the Central Registry as well as the coordinating unit for all other organs of the University.
The Registrar is the coordinator, link and facilitator of all programmes and activities of the Directorates and Units in the Registry. As the custodian of the rules and regulations of the University, the Registrar ensures compliance to such rules and regulations by both staff and students and also offers advice to the appropriate authorities and organs concerned.
The Directors who are heads of the Directorates are responsible to the Registrar for the running of their Directorates and give reports of their activities at a bi-monthly meeting with the Registrar. more...
DIRECTORATE OF PERSONNEL AFFAIRS
The Directorate of Personnel Affairs deals with the human resource management for more than 5,000 staff employed by the University. The Directorate:
- Develops, implements and manages human resource policies, procedures and practices.
- Handles matters relating to appointments, promotions and welfare of all categories of staff in the University
- Develops appropriate personnel policies, procedures and practices
- Provides professional personnel and specialist support to departments
- Facilitates good employee and industrial relations
- Facilitates training programmes for staff development
- Manages all Staff records
- Administers the pensions schemes for staff
- Services the personnel committees on academic, administrative/technical and junior staff through the following Units - Academic Staff Establishment, Administrative/Technical staff Establishment and Junior staff Establhment respectively.
In carrying out these responsibilities, the Directorate is determined to improve the services offered to the University, its institutions and members of staff and welcome comments. more...
DIRECTORATE OF COUNCIL AFFAIRS
The Directorate facilitates the major decision-making processes of the University. These are the processes through which the University determines its strategic directions and its future shape and activities. The Directorate comprises the Council Secretariat and the Tenders Unit through which it provides the following services:
- provision of advisory and executive service to the Pro-Chancellor; the University Council and its Committees, the Vice-Chancellor and major decision-making bodies within the University.
- administration of tendering process and monitoring of the execution of capital and rehabilitation projects.
- ensuring effective and efficient dissemination of Council decisions and those of its committees; and that papers for consideration at meetings are received on time, in proper format and in a cost-effective way.

DIRECTORATE OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
This Directorate deals with all activities directly related to the academic programs of the University. It oversees all operations of the colleges/faculties/departments/units by providing administrative oversight and support for academic matters in the University. The units comprising the Directorate are Senate, Admissions, Examinations and Records. The Directorate specific responsibilities include:
- administration and monitoring of University policies as they relate to academic matters;
- collaboration with academic colleges/faculties/departments/units to develop academic plan for the University consistent with the vision, mission and strategic plans of the University;
- facilitating compliance with the standards of accrediting agencies and effectively and efficiently implement descisions from accreditation reviews in collaboration with appropriate agencies. more...
DIRECTORATE OF CORPORATE SERVICES
The Directorate provides a range of services in order to help the University achieve its strategic goals and advance its position as one of the leading universities in Africa through an extensive, interactive, strong and purposeful relationships with its stakeholders including alumni, friends, staff and supporters of the University. It promotes the image and reputation of the University through strategic communication within the University and beyond, using media, print and electronic means, as well as University events. more...
