Dean’s Welcome Address
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the webpage of the Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The Faculty is one of oldest and well staffed in the University.
The Faculty of Agriculture is one of the first five faculties with which the University started functioning in 1962. In 1967/68, the Faculty was one of the first units of the University to transfer to the permanent site at Ile-Ife. Prior to 1981, the Faculty offered a unified 4-year degree programme in General Agriculture leading to award of B.Sc. (Agriculture). However starting from the 1981/82 academic session, the Faculty started the 5-year undergraduate degree programmes of B.Agric. (Agric. Economics), B.Agric. (Agric. Extension & Rural Development), B.Agric. (Animal Science), B.Agric. (Crop Production and Protection ) and B.Agric. (Soil Science) representing the subject matter areas of the five departments in the Faculty.
Our programmes in the various departments are well tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of the labour market as well as a growing body of budding entrepreneurs. The production of agricultural commodities to meet domestic and foreign market demand along with remunerative employment to our graduates have remained the central philosophy of the Faculty over the years. Our programmes have been evolving to cater for these changing needsIn addition to the above degrees in Agriculture, the Faculty offers a 4-year undergraduate programme in the Department of Family Nutrition and Consumer Sciences leading to B.Sc. Consumer Sciences in

- Textiles, Clothing and Interior Decoration
- Food, Nutrition and Dietetics
- Hospitality Management
- Resource Management and Extension
The course is divided into four parts each lasting 2 Semesters as follows:
Part I Basic Sciences in the Faculty of Science.
Part II Basic Home Economics courses in specialized areas.
Part III Specialized courses with a few basic Home Economics courses
Part IV Courses in specialized areas.
