OAU Staff School at 50: VC CONGRATULATES STAFF, OLD BOYS, GIRLS

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede has congratulated the entire Obafemi Awolowo University Staff School family on the school’s Golden Jubilee, emphasising that the school has indeed lived up to the expectations of its founders, even in the face of dwindling support from the government.

Professor Ogunbodede, who stated this in his remarks while receiving a delegation of the school’s alumni that paid a courtesy visit to the University, noted that the University is very proud that OAUSS alumni are among the movers and shakers in the country today having done so well for themselves in their chosen endeavours.

The Vice-Chancellor, however, charged the alumni to come to their alma-mater’s assistance by staunchly supporting its on-going developmental efforts and giving-back by providing scholarships for indigent pupils and donating teaching aids that will enhance teaching-learning experience, to mention but a few.

Professor Ogunbodede, having commended the successive generations of the schools teaching staff for their meritorious service, the results of which are noticeable in lives of the “old boys and girls” today, appealed for calm and understanding at the school’s current staff, as the University administration had already sent a letter requesting the teachers’ re-absorption to the appropriate quarters at Abuja.

Speaking separately, the members of the delegation who were among the pioneer pupils of the OAUSS in 1967, Mr. Gbenga Adeyefa, the Director of Personnel Affairs in the University, and Dr. Bola Ibitoye, a Faculty member in the Department of Radiology in the University, complained about the falling standard in the school, charging the Professor Ogunbodede-led administration to set machinery in motion to halt the downward slide. They both canvassed a re-introduction and return of the school to its administrative model of the 1960’s and 1970’s which according to them, was very pragmatic.

This OAUSS alumni delegation, comprising “old boys and girls” from across the country and the United Kingdom, were led on the visit to the Vice-Chancellor by Professor Adebayo Shittu of the Department of Biochemistry, who is the arrow-head of the Golden Jubilee Planning and Reunion events.
