FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY HOLDS ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Faculty of Technology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has held its international conference, also known as (OAUTekConf), for this year, with the theme: Harnessing Technology for Sustainable Development in Africa.

Declaring the conference which was held at the OAU Conference Center open, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, ably represented by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Academic), Professor Simeon Bamire, emphasized that “the focus of the conference on sustainable development and strategies for achieving same is to bridge the huge disconnect amongst the tripartite sectors of Government, Industry and the Academia,” adding that the disconnect poses a major challenge to our technological and economic sustainability.

In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Benjamin Imasogie said organizing this year’s edition of the annual conference was to “reposition the Faculty of Technology as the driver of techno-industrial development in Nigeria.” He therefore pledged that the faculty would strive to get the required knowledge and outcome based cooperation with synergistic and workable imperatives for research and development.
The Conference, featured a roundtable interactive session, chaired by Professor G.A Adegboyega of Electrical and Electronic department, which mainly treated creating a synergy between Government, Industry, the Civil Society and the environment with mutual respect and empathy as watch words.

The roundtable discussion also canvassed a business Centre that would serve as an incubation Centre for the research outputs of the Faculty of Technology and other faculties in the institution.
