So Far: The Idea - A Final Year Art Exhibition of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts

‘So Far, The Idea’ is a final year exhibition by the founding fathers of art education in higher education all over the world and particularly in Nigeria and has yielded far reaching results. Those who participate in this annual festival, a sort of sacrifice to show that we are done have benefited immensely from that experience.

In Ife, the renewed efforts both through the introduction of a course to cater for that exercise has particular gingered both staff and students to the realisation of this important aspect of our profession.

So far, it has been an effort in the right direction. This year’s show, by the final year students of the 2025/2016 session showcases energy, dexterity and a show of determination by the 58 students who are participating in the exhibition. This is the 5th in that renewed effort of showing what we really do as artists and what the Nigerian nation and our university can gain from us.

‘So Far’ remains the main title of our exhibitions, and may be for years to come. This year’s exhibition however added a slight twist to that by giving a sub-theme of ‘The Idea’. It is an idea that its time has come, and it has arrived in a big way for these students. Perhaps this is what they want us to see, hear and read in the works on display spanning the different areas of art – Paintings, graphics, photograph, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics. Some of them are also on sale for those interested.

So far, we are encouraged by these young men and women that the future of art of our school is bright. We therefore call on everyone as we have always done to be part of our development and successes.
The exhibition was declared Open on the 25th of April, 2017 by Professor B. T. Aluko Dean Faculty of Environmental Design and Management along with Professor G. R. Adeoti Dean Faculty of Arts and Dr. A. O. Ilesanmi Acting Head, Department of Architecture.

Since the opening, the exhibition ground has attracted visits from staff and students of the University, elementary and high school students from Ile-Ife and beyond which also includes staffs and students from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and other guests from South Africa.

Due to the popular request, the exhibition which was scheduled to hold between the 24th and 28th April has been extended to 5th of May, 2017. This is to give opportunities to members of the community who are still interested in seeing the exhibition.
